The Samsung Galaxy S4 has already clocked up over 10 million sales, after less than one month and remains one of the most talked about smartphone models on the market. However, the South Korean manufacturer’s latest flagship device is set to be joined by a number of new variants in the coming weeks.
One of these is the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini. As with last year’s Galaxy S3 flagship, Samsung will be releasing a smaller, lower spec but much more affordable version of the flagship device. Previous rumours suggested that the phone would be unveiled at the Samsung Premier event which takes place at London’s Earls Court on June 20th.
However, Android Authority has reported that Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy S4 Mini earlier than expected. Therefore, it is now thought that Samsung Premier event will be used to showcase other variants of the Galaxy S4, such as the Zoom and Active.
Android Authority has revealed the spec list of the Galaxy S4 Mini, and many of these coincide with previous rumours and leaked information about its features. As expected, many of its main hardware specifications are downgraded from the flagship Galaxy S4, with a smaller 4.3 inch qHD super AMOLED display, 1.7 GHz dual-core processor, 8 GB of storage with microSD slot, 1.5 GB of RAM. The camera has been downgraded to 8 megapixels, from the 13 megapixel camera of its flagship counterpart. The phone also includes a 1.9 megapixel front facing camera, and all the usual connectivity features such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. A separate LTE version of the phone will be released, which will also come with NFC, and a dual-SIM variant which is likely to be restricted to certain countries where such devices are the norm. Of course, many of the handset’s features are downgraded from the Galaxy S4, but it still includes the same software package as the flagship device with Android 4.2 Jellybean and Samsung TouchWiz Nature UX interface.
